Wallace A. “Wally" Samuelson, 79, of Watford City, formerly of Brockton, MT, Arnegard, ND, and most recently the NE Montana Veterans Home in Glendive, MT, died Monday morning, November 16, 2009 at the McKenzie County Memorial Hospital in Watford City.
Wallace Alfred Samuelson was born on January 18, 1930 to Clement and Alma Samuelson in Brockton, Montana. One of seven children, he grew up in Brockton and graduated from Brockton High School.
After high school he joined the US Army and was a veteran of the Korean War. In 1950 Wally married Jane Ann Priebe and they were stationed at Camp Stoneman, California. After being discharged in 1951 they moved back to Brockton, moving their family to Arnegard, North Dakota in 1955. There they raised five boys. In 1957 Diana Jane was born, and was received by the lord within her first year of life, after suffering from spina bifida.
Wally managed the Farmers Elevator Company in Arnegard from 1955 to 1973 when he suffered his first heart attack. In 1973 Wally and his family moved to Watford City, North Dakota. He returned to the grain business in 1983 and was manager of the Mondak Farmers Elevator in Arnegard until he retired. In June of 2006 Wally moved to the Eastern Montana Veteran’s home where he enjoyed wonderful care until coming back to Watford City on Friday evening, November 13th.
Wally loved the community of Arnegard, serving as mayor, fire chief, school board member, public works servant, and numerous other community services. He enjoyed it all.
Wally loved spending time at McKenzie Bay, and he passed his love of boating, fishing and family togetherness on to his 17 Grandchildren and 26 Great-Grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Jane Ann; sister, Harriet; sons, Pat (Pauline) of Shoreview, MN, Fred (Helen) of Port Orchard, WA, Curtis (Charlene), Jerry (Raynette), and Randy (Barb) all of Watford City, ND; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Wally was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Victor, Donald and Gordon; sisters, Carol and Lois; and by daughter, Diana Jane.
