John Weisz, 92, of Williston and Ray, North Dakota died Saturday evening, October 24, 2009 at the Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home in Williston.
John George Weisz was born on May 29, 1917 in Truax Township to Hermine and George Weisz. John was baptized in the Catholic faith at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Williston, North Dakota. He was raised on the family farm located close to present day Lewis and Clark state park. In 1921 they moved to Brooklyn Township to enable them to attend school. In 1926 they moved to the present farm site in Equality Township east of Ray.
John graduated the eighth grade at Ray (Nesson) Public school in Ray. He worked the family farm with his dad and spent two winters working for C.C.C. at Kramer, North Dakota and Medicine Lake, Montana. He owned and operated the Town and Country Bar in Ray from 1952-1963.
On May 29, 1959 John married Evelyn (Hagen) Morris at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Ray. John bought the family farm in 1966 and engaged in farming, ranching and had a herd of dairy cows he was very proud of. John semi-retired in 1978 after surgery in 1977 left him unable to assume full responsibilities of running the farm and dairy.
He served several years on the Equality Township board as assessor, clerk, and supervisor.
He enjoyed all kinds of livestock and especially a good saddle horse. He also was very proud and spent many hours working in his yard and raising a bountiful garden. He started wood working after retiring from the farm and built many small knick knacks, picnic tables and shelves. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by a son, Terry (Mary) Weisz of Williston, ND, their children, Brandon (Amanda) Weisz of West Fargo, ND, Shawn (Brenda) Weisz and sons, Aiden and Gavin of Argusville, ND, and Tiffany Weisz of Williston, ND; daughter, Jonae (Craig) Bauske and daughters, Jessica of Garden City, Kansas and Cassandra of Ray, ND; step daughter, Lana Anderson of Bismarck, ND, and her children, Melissa Boehm, Michael Anderson, Mitch Anderson, and Monti Anderson; step grandchildren (Patricia Horton’s children), Cherri Lynn and Chuck of Oregon; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Hermine; wife, Evelyn in 1991; sisters, Mary Munson and Hermine (Mick) Campbell; brothers, Oscar and Joseph Weisz; stepson, James Morris; and stepdaughter, Patricia Horton.
