Lloyd Howard Rogney was born on January 15, 1918 in the home of Mrs. Dahl of Froid, MT to Gilbert and Hazel Marie (Metcalf) Rogney. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in Froid, MT. When Lloyd was 16, his Dad introduced him into the railroad business. He graduated from the Froid High School. From there he went on to Missoula to pursue a degree in accounting. He transferred to Berkeley, CA for 2 ½ years. He went on to the University of California in Los Angeles for half a year in advanced accounting and half a year at the school of Frank Wiggins for telegraphy. Dad’s profession would then be serving our country during the war through the railroad. He continued this for 28 years as a depot agent.
In his early years, his dad had a three ring circus. Part of Lloyd’s job was taking care of a bear. Throughout his life, he would talk about those experiences with the bear and the circus. Lloyd loved cars and loved to tell about the different makes and models that he owned throughout his life.
On October 12, 1942, he married Dorothy King in Plentywood, MT. This would be their first home and two years later they had their first child, a son. Five years later a daughter was born and two years later a son was born to complete the family. Throughout those early years, Lloyd worked many railroad towns until gaining a permanent position in Fairview. There they built their home and lived in it right up until the end.
Lloyd loved to fix things that didn’t work right. He enjoyed puttsing. He was an avid camera club member, active in city council, chamber of commerce and a Boy Scout leader for 20 years. Lloyd enjoyed gardening, growing tomatoes, and seedlings from his childhood in Froid.
Lloyd died on Friday, May 22, 2009 at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility, where he was a recent resident.
Lloyd is survived by his wife, Dorothy of 67 years; sons, Doug (Lynn) and their children, John, Ben, Anne Claire of Wytheville,VA, Darby of Glasgow, MT and his children Katie and Jeff; daughter, Dianne (Harlan) Torgerson of Williston, ND and their children, Jen (Jeff) Schaunaman of Aberdeen, SD, Scott (Deysi Alogna) Trinidad, CO, Michael (Nikki) Bruce of Fargo, ND, and Callie Torgerson (Leroy Callender) of Sidney, MT; four great grandchildren, Devon Torgerson, Claire Schaunaman, Gavin Callender, and Gabe Callender; a sister, Evelyn Barry, Billings, MT and her children Gilbert Barry, Joan Borberg, and Tom Barry.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his parents.
