49th Annual Farm Festival
:
Tioga
The 49th Annual Farm Festival in Tioga, ND gave Fulkerson’s an opportunity to give back a bit to community by sponsoring a Coin/Grain Hunt. Children of all ages were invited to participate. Coins were tossed into a stock tank filled with Durum wheat; the kids were given several minutes to search through the grain for the coin. When the time was up, they were allowed to keep whatever they had found. It was a lot of fun for all involved, although Mother Nature did not want to cooperate, unless you were a duck! In the end 3,069 nickels were found.
Special thanks to Richard Schmidt of Tioga for providing the grain, Ordean Fossa of Tioga for cleaning the grain, and Cenex of Tioga for providing the stock tank.
Good Neighbor Day!
:
Williston
Good Neighbor Day is a great opportunity for the funeral directors at Fulkerson Funeral Home to be in the presence of the public on a "Happy Occasion"; a nice change for us to the public observance we are usually associated with... September 3, 2008 the local florist provided hundreds of roses, a dozen at a time, to smiling cliental who are asked to share a rose with a friend, hence touching 11 friends with a rose and a smile. We all know the power of a smile! So it is a nice "warm fuzzy" for our staff to be involved in sponsorship of this special day in our community. The only cost to the client is a donated food item suitable for the Salvation Army's local food Pantry; another worthwhile provider in the community...two birds with the same stone...not a bad thing at all. See you there, share a rose and a smile, and feed those who have fallen on bad times!
10th Annual Clergy Golf Tournament
:
Watford City
For the past ten years, the last Monday in August, Fulkerson Funeral Home has been host to local Clergy with the annual "Clergy Open" golf outing. All are invited to an area golf course and treated to a lunch and refreshments on the course and a full dinner following a great day of gold and comradary. We have been to Sidney, Watford City, Tioga, Ray, and Red Mike courses over the years.
Fulkerson Funeral Home has had an intrigate part in helping the local Ministerium come to know each other. This event allows them to gather in a very enjoyable and relaxed environment. This we believe helps to encourage an ecummenical environment for all involved...God only knows we are here to help one another and to help serve the many families who place their trust in us and the many services that they are offered at a time of loss...Grief Shared is Grief Diminished.
This event has become very well attended and appreciated over the past ten years. We are glad to play this simple part....Fore!

United Cemetery Improvement Project
:
Tioga
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Tioga had the privilege of serving a community need of beautifying both entrances of United Cemetery in Tioga with the granite plaques that are located on brick columns at either entrance to the cemetery. This was done as part of the cemetery beautification project lead by the Beta Sigma Phi-Zeta Master Sorority.
The plaques bare the name of the cemetery in a white frosted letter on black African granite.
WHS Class of 2008 Tree Planting
:
Williston
On May 23rd 2008, Fulkerson Funeral Home along with Handy Andy’s Nursery donated a tree and a granite marker to the graduating class of Williston High School.
The tradition started when Dennis Gendreau of Fulkerson’s oldest son was a graduating senior. This marks the thirteenth year in a row the two local businesses have teamed up for that donation.
Every year right after graduation practice the graduating seniors meet at the front of the school to plant “their” tree. There are now thirteen beautiful trees in the front yard of Williston High school all at different heights and stages of development.
In the sad event that one of their fellow classmates has died before graduating, a memorial statement is added to the granite marker and the tree is planted in memory of that student.
The tree and marker give the graduating class a sense of “ownership” in the school that will last long after their tenure at WHS is over. It also offers a place to gather at their class reunions held every ten years, to see the trees growth physically as well as their own physical, mental and emotional growth, and in some years it offers a place of memorial as well.
Thompson Landing
:
Williston
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Williston was a proud participant in the bronze eternal marker honoring Judge Gordon Thompson of Williston. This marker is located at the newly named landing just east of Williston at the Little Muddy River Boat Ramp. The bronze marker recognizes Gordon’s vision for the area and is mounted on an ominous local rock.
Judge Thompson is a part of the original Arbor Day Tree Committee, that worked diligently over the years to establish the Arbor Day Centennial Forest east of Williston which begins at it’s north border of the White Bridge Northeast of Williston and continues south along the river to the newly named Thompson Flats.
